It’s of my mother and father shortly after their wedding and just outside the church (Bronx, New York), circa July 8th, 1951.  My dad was in the USMC at the time and due to fight in Korea.  While he was in Hawaii awaiting orders to go, they (the brass) found out he knew how to fix Air Conditioners.  A little mechanical trade he picked up when he was younger.  So when they (the brass) found out he knew how to do this, they mixed his orders to Korea and said he was going to remain in Hawaii (Honolulu…poor guy huh?) and keep the entire air conditioner fleet running on the base.  At the time, he was very upset and angry, because he wanted to go and “fight.”  But, a good Marine he was, and he followed orders and did a terrific job on base keeping all the air conditioners running in tip top cooling shape.  That’s when he brought my mother over from NY to live on base with him, and that’s where I was born, circa December 28th, 1952.  He got out of the Marines 6 months later, and we all headed back to the states.  He started up his own Air conditioning business in Miami in the late 50’s, and my mother was the secretary, and we all lived happily ever after.

It always been our mother and son day every weekend before. But after I start work I have been busy and cannot spend the day with my mom anymore. But the last few weeks I have had free mornings and we spend a morning to do some shopping at our local morning market called ‘Pasar Tani’ here in Malaysia. After we have done shopping I suddenly said ‘Mom,lets have a picture’ and my mom suddenly shocked with it then she just go with it…Mom,sorry for being too busy with my life and forgetting that actually you are my life…love you mom.

This is my mother in October of 1971, dressed up for a homecoming dance. She always said she hated the way she looked in this photo, but I think she looks amazing.

She who reflects the years of worry on her skin, stories that no one can tell,
She who knows it all, and says where to go,
She who´s arms are strong by carrying bread for home,
She who stands tall, someone to be proud of.
She´s my mom.

Me and my mom on her best friend’s wedding. My mom is more than just a mother to me. She’s a father. A friend. A shehulk. A banshee. An angel. The single mother of three kids, one disabled and sick and one special needs while being disabled herself. She never let that stop her from chasing her dreams and always inspired me to chase mine. She’s the strongest person I know and she isn’t afraid to admit when she’s weak. The three of us might not be perfect but she taught us so much and did her best to take care of us in horrible conditions. I’m so proud to have a big gay mom to go to Pride with. It made coming out a lot easier, haha.

My mother is a kind and loving soul. One, I missed for many years. Clearing the path, from the past was tough and left us both open and vulnerable. Not an easy position,…..I got to know her as a person, an individual. Not just my mother. Wow what an eye opener. Perspective has quite a strong influence on opinions we form. They are learned, from our history,..our past,.. etc. Perspectives should maybe be considered of temporary, use. The world and people in it, change every single day. I have adopted a special saying, to remind myself of this. “Don’t get stuck on stupid”. Point is, we all are flawed in this world. You, me,..etc,.. Acceptance of those flaws is the key,…to surviving a relationship you truly want to embrace , forever. I love my mother with all my heart. And I know that she loves me too. All of her,..and all of me.

Our Mother was an angel. This photo shows her on Scarborough beach with my brother, Graham. Our parents took us on an annual holiday there every year and gave us a lovely, magical childhood. Mum and Dad died within months of each other in the late 1980’s, but they have left a legacy of love and many fond memories that will never die.
